Nameglow is made by Gjorge Karakabakov. This page explains what happens to your data when you use the Mac app, this website, or buy Pro.

In short: your files, filenames and spreadsheets never leave your Mac. The app sends anonymous usage events that you can switch off, and this website counts visits without cookies. Both use PostHog’s EU cloud.

Your files stay on your Mac

Nameglow reads the names and filesystem attributes of files you choose. It changes names in place after you confirm a batch. It does not upload filenames, paths, or file contents to us or use them to train AI. Renames in cloud-synced folders are handled by your existing sync provider.

Data stored on your Mac

The app keeps naming preferences and a record of the last rename batch locally. The batch record contains paths and file identifiers so it can support undo and recovery. A Pro license is stored locally in macOS Keychain. These records are not analytics and are never sent anywhere. The app also remembers a few settings, such as whether you have seen the tutorial and your choice for anonymous usage data.

Anonymous usage data from the app

So we can see which features are used and where people get stuck, Nameglow sends short usage events to PostHog, on its EU cloud. They are built to be anonymous:

No lasting identifier. Each time Nameglow opens, it makes a random number, keeps it in memory and forgets it when you quit. One launch can’t be linked to the next, and PostHog is told not to build a profile of anyone. IP addresses are not stored.
What an event says. That the app opened (and whether it is the first time or Pro is active); that the tutorial was shown, which step you reached and whether you finished or skipped it; that files were added (by drop, file picker or folder) and how many; which mode, quick recipe or kind of rule you chose, such as “lowercase” or “add a sequence” — never the text you typed into a rule; that a spreadsheet was pasted or opened as CSV or TSV, with how many rows matched; the size of a preview, how many conflicts it had and whether the Windows check was on; that a rename, undo or recovery started, finished or failed, with the number of files and how long it took; that a report was exported; that the Pro window or checkout was opened, or a license was activated or refused (with the kind of refusal, such as “network”); and that Settings opened. A failure carries only the error’s domain and number, never its message.
What comes with each event. The Nameglow version and build and the macOS version (for example 15.5). Nothing else about your Mac.
What is never sent. Filenames, folder names or paths; file contents; spreadsheet contents; the text of your rules, recipe names or project names; reports; your license key, name or email.
How it travels. Events wait in memory and go out in small batches about every half-minute. If your Mac is offline, nothing is sent and the events are dropped, never saved for later.
How to stop it. Nameglow → Settings… → Share anonymous usage data. It is on by default. Turning it off stops sending at once and drops anything still waiting.

Spreadsheets and reports

Pasted filename pairs and imported CSV/TSV files are processed on your Mac. Nameglow does not upload them or evaluate spreadsheet formulas. You can save an HTML preview or a receipt for the latest completed rename. These reports contain filenames and omit absolute folder paths. Review names before sharing a report. The app does not send reports for you.

Pro licenses and payments

When you validate a Pro license, your license key and our public organization identifier are sent securely to Polar. Filenames and file contents are not included. Polar returns the license status so the app can unlock Pro. Polar processes checkout, payment information, receipts, and license delivery under its privacy policy. We do not receive full payment card details.

This website

The site counts visits with PostHog, on its EU cloud, in cookieless mode: it sets no cookie and stores nothing on your device, so there is no banner to click. It records anonymous page views and what is used on the page: the label of a link or button you click, which sections you saw, how far you scrolled and roughly how long the page stayed open, whether you downloaded the app or opened checkout, which demo controls you used, such as a sample recipe or the Windows check, and the first 60 characters of text you copy from the page itself (never from the demos or a text field). IP addresses are not stored, sessions are not recorded, nothing follows you to other sites, and nothing is sold; see PostHog’s privacy policy.

The interactive previews work on sample names in your browser. We never receive the text you type into them, and it is not part of any analytics event. There are no advertising trackers, tracking cookies or mailing-list forms. Netlify hosts the site and may process ordinary request data, including your IP address, for delivery, security, and abuse prevention under its privacy policy.
